Opus
Medical becomes OPUSMED and launches new led device
Montreal,
November 28, 2003, - In December 2003, Opus Medical, developer
and manufacturer of the F1 Diode Laser, Canada's first
hair-removal laser, officially becomes OPUSMED. It is under
this new name that OPUSMED will be launching LumiPhase,
a new Canadian light-emitting diode (LED) device for skin
rejuvenation and acne. LumiPhase will be introduced
to dermatologists from around the world at the 62nd Annual
Meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology, being held
in Washington, D.C., from February 6 to 11, 2004.
LumiPhase is part of a new generation of non-ablative,
non-thermal LED devices for more effective, faster and safer
treatments to reduce wrinkles, improve skin texture and
eliminate P. acnes bacteria, the primary cause of acne.
The LumiPhase system will offer such unique advantages
as higher light intensity and an optical positioning system
to ensure more efficacious and uniform treatments.
The
extensive research that went in the development of the LumiPhase-R
for skin rejuvenation was conducted by Dr. Daniel Barolet
of the Derma-Laser Clinic. "In my own practice, I've
been using low-level laser therapy since 1993 to optimize
wound healing," says Dr. Barolet. Using similar photobiochemical
principles, he conducted in-vitro testing for OPUSMED on
monolayers of fibroblasts, as well as on cultured skin equivalents,
using the LumiPhase-R. Furthermore, a controlled split-face
clinical trial of 53 subjects with photoaged skin showed
excellent results. According to Dr. Barolet, "Wrinkles
on the treated side were improved by 58% based on PRIMOS
3D digital profilometry measurements." In the study,
patients were given three treatments a week for four weeks,
and were exposed to the LED light for only minutes each
time, with no discomfort or burning sensation. LumiPhase-R
proprietary sequential pulsing pattern is delivered through
18 LED modules containing a total of some 2,000 light units.
OPUSMED
Co-President Geneviève Chaput notes that "LumiPhase
is yet another example of OPUSMED's ability to develop innovative
and scientifically-proven light-based solutions to better
meet the changing needs of health and beauty professionals."
